Ukrainian Air Force
Fixed-Wing | Rotary-Wing Aircraft
By Western standards, the Ukrainian Air Force is a modest fighting force made up largely of Soviet-era flying equipment that includes the Su-27 and MiG-29 fighters. Once the spearhead of the Soviet air fleet, these aircraft have limited value over the modern battlefield today. In properly-trained / determined hands, however, they still represent a formidable adversary partilcularly where air superiority has not yet been achieved. The earlier, post-Soviet Ukrainian Air Force inventory proved more prolific with MiG-21, MiG-23/-27, and MiG-25 types available as well as the Tupolev Tu-95 and Tu-160 strategic-level bombers - all since retired before the start of the Russo-Ukrainian War in 2022.
